Different forms of inequality and discrimination limit the livelihoods and opportunities of citizens. Inequality also propels and perpetuates poverty.

The fight for social justice is thus inextricably linked with the fight against inequality. And inequality emanates from unjust power relations at all levels. It leads to unaccountable use of power and exclusion of the poor and the marginalised from meaningful participation in political processes and policy decisions that affect their lives.
